Time for my Xbox Kinect Review.  The Kinect is, in my opinion, the next step the the development of gaming systems.  I remembered a funny line from Back to the Future 2 after Marty shows the kids in the cafe 80′s, how to play the shooting game.  They looked at him and said “You have to use your hands?  That’s a baby’s toy!”  LOL

In this Xbox Kinect review I want to talk about the benefits and features, as well as some of the pro’s and cons.

Xbox Kinect Review:

First of all I want to point out that unlike the Wii and the Playstation Move, which both require some kind of hand held device, the Kinect doesn’t require a wand or controller of any kind.  It uses three cameras to track your movements and self pivots up and down.  The Kinect uses facial recognition to recognize your user settings.

You use your hands to control the elements of Kinect games.  In Dance Central you move your body according to the avatar dancing on the screen in mirror fashion.  The driving games hand control has you hold your hands like you are driving a virtual car.  I also wanted to mention the vocal recognition in this Xbox Kinect review.  In games like Halo, you can use the voice commands to throw grenades and reload your gun.  This is great for single player but can really mess up if you are networking with someone in the same room.

Xbox Kinect Review: Cons

Some of the Cons include the fact that the Kinect requires a lot of room.  You need to be about 7ft back from the Kinect for single player and as far as 9 ft back for multiplayer.  This could pose a problem with people who don’t have that kind of space in their home.  I also did some checking and found that the voice recognition will respond to various english commands, Japanese, and Mexican Spanish, but other languages haven’t been accounted for yet.

Setup is really easy.  After plugging everything in, the Kinect takes samples of the background noise so it knows what sounds it needs to cancel out for game play.  It verifies that you have the proper spacing within the room and learns your facial features to track your user preferences.

Another point I want to cover in this Xbox Kinect Review is the fact that this isn’t a gaming system in it self.  This is an add on to the Xbox 360.  Originally being sold for $150 it seemed to be a little expensive simply for being an add on.  However, the good news is you can find for less and once you begin game play, you really see the cost is absolutely justified.  Not to mention the personal physical benefits of getting up off the couch.  I’ve personally been able to drop several pounds simply by getting off the couch and moving around.

I would recommend the Kinect to anyone who is an Xbox enthusiast.  This revolutionary little box will virtually change the way you see gaming and is really fun by yourself or with friends.  The dance games alone are worth it and some really fun, more advances games are coming in the near future.

Xbox Kinect Review: What Exactly Is It?

The first thing you must understand about the X-box Kinect is that it is NOT a stand alone game console. It works together with the X-box 360.

The kinect has revolutionized the gaming world and has completely done away with controllers. This device is sensor based meaning that YOU are the controller. By sensor based I mean that it picks up any motion that you make and it translates it into the game you are playing.

The Kinect can track your every move — your hands, head, arms, feet, hips, EVERYTHING. It get’s everyone in the room off the couch and right into the excitement of the game, laughing, cheering and moving together.

Who is Kinect For?

Kinect is for people of all ages, shapes and sizes (Microsoft does recommend players to be atleast 40 inches tall). From hardcore gamers to people brand new to gaming. Even for non-gamers who are intimidated or struggle with all the confusing controllers and buttons that other game consoles come with.

Kinect can be great for bringing family and friends together for a game night; whether it be father and son, mother and daughter, best friends or everyone all together to enjoy a great day of fun.

Kinect is NOT for those who are lazy and faint at heart since YOU are the control Kinect is sure to get you jumping off the couch and moving around. If you are a lazy gamer then this is NOT the product for you. But if you are someone that like’s to get a great workout while having fun then when you buy kinect I am certain you will not be disappointed.

Kinect is sure to give you a great workout since you’re practically immersed in the experiences. As you can see it is not only fun but great for your health and overall well being. It is also great to get your kids off the couch and away from some of the games that keep them inactive for hours on end.

The Price for Kinect?

The prices range for the Kinect and it also depends on whether or not you already own an Xbox.

For the Kinect alone you can expect to pay about $150 for a brand new one and as low as $82 for a used one on Amazon.com BUT of course when it comes to technology and game consoles I highly recommend buying a new one. In my experience I have found dishing out the extra money for a new one ends up saving me a ton of time, money and headaches.
