Roku XS Review

by Joshua Zamora on December 16, 2011

I’m really excited to write this Roku XS Review and share with you the features and benefits that come with owning this great piece of technology.

The Roku XS is the current top of the line video streaming hardware in Roku’s line up of products. I only paid $99 through Amazon and received it only a few days later.  I’m going to cover everything I got in this Roku XS Review.

After the setup I began to play Angry Birds, which came preloaded on the XS.  I was amazed at the enhanced gaming remote that came with it.  Turned forward it looks like the regular Roku remote in structure, but turned sideways it resembles the original Nintendo controller with a directional pad and A/B buttons.

Because it was motion controlled while playing angry birds, I only needed to hold the button on the remote, aim, and release to play. During game play I noticed that I didn’t need to point the remote directly at the box like I had to with my previous Roku and Wii.

I found out it transmitted a Bluetooth (RF) signal rather than a IR signal.  When I learned that, I put the Roku behind the TV to roku xs review 300x256 Roku XS Reviewmake it look less cluttered and it worked perfectly!

I also plugged my external hard drive into the USB port and began watching my home videos that I had saved.  The picture was remarkably clear in full 1080p!  Unlike my brother’s Apple TV which only plays 720p.

Another point I wanted to cover in the Roku Review is the price.  I picked it up for only $99 and I received it in under a week.  Not to mention there is no monthly fee, and it interfaces with your favorite Roku Channels like  Netflix, Hulu Plus, Amazon Video, and Pandora stations.

The Roku XS is easy to install. My computer is in the office and so is my wireless router.  I plugged the XS into the TV and had it search for the network and it found it!  I had fun searching through Roku’s 350+ channels and apps.

My biggest issue on the Con to report would be having to purchase another HDMI cable as it came with standard AV cables.  I only had one for my DVD player however, Amazon has relatively inexpensive HDMI cables so I picked one up with my Roku Order.

I hope you got some great information from my Roku XS review and I know if you do decide to buy Roku you will not be dissapointed. With this easy to install, high quality, and low price video streaming solution I know you’ll never look anywhere else!
